With the blue skies above us and the washing on the balcony we’ve got a lot ahead of us this June, there’s so much coming up, we need to give you advance notice, so you can get out your filofaxes, delay your holidays and wait with eager anticipation! We will add more details, invitations, booking information as we go along.. watch this space:

Sunday 14th June (1.00pm): Concrete Stockport: A walking tour of mid-century concrete highlights in Stockport, conducted by the engaging and erudite Stephen Marland and Natalie Ainscough. The Modernists will also be manning a stall at Vintage Village. Booking details here.

Thursday 18th June (6.00pm-8.00pm): ManModSoc – a Manchester Modernist Society Exhibition in four parts – Private View including the launch of the latest Modernist Magazine along with our one off tribute to Modernist cycling ‘Souplesse  – Issue #15 ‘Entertainment’ (free) RSVP & details here.

Friday 19th – Friday 26th June: ManModSoc – An exhibition of archive and contemporary photographs of Manchester’s 20th century urban fabric selected  from a year long programme of volunteer led activities by the Manchester Modernist Society. The exhibition is divided into four parts: Sacred Suburbs, Hulme and Manchester 60s & 70s and Mooch. Venue/s and opening times – (free) Details here.

Saturday 20th June (1.00pm-4.00pm): A 1960’s bus will take us between our two ManModSoc Exhibition venues (includes free entry into the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester). Picking up at Albert Square. (Free) RSVP details here.

Saturday 20th June: Birmingham Suburbs (9.00am – 7pm): A C20th Society North West Group event: The C20th Society NW Group invite you to Brum. Booking Details here.

Tuesday 23rd June (6.30pm): A walking tour of Hulme looking into the regeneration schemes of the 1960s and 1990s; and into the now mythical sub-culture of the Hulme Crescents. Booking details here.

Thursday 25th June (6.00pm ): Hulme Film Night – In association with the North West Film Archive and  Manchester Metropolitan University, a programme of films dedicated to the recent history of Hulme. Booking details here.

Saturday 27th June (10.30 am – 4.00pm): Saturday Supplement at The Whitworth – includes walking tour; curators talk (1960s textiles); Discussion 1960s art/design/architecture; film screening (1960s artists).

Saturday 27th June: Walking Tour (10am)
An exploration of the public art that adorns many of Manchester’s educational 1960’s buildings. From the former UMIST campus, down Oxford Road, to The Whitworth itself. Meeting at The Vimto sculpture at the rear of UMIST on Granby Row. Free Walking tour book here.
